Salida, Co
Salida is a quaint mountain town nestled in a high valley surrounded by 14,000 foot peaks. 90 miles west of Pueblo on Highway 50, it is a somewhat undiscovered treasure.
The highway has a miriad of shops and restaruants, but it is the downtown that makes the area so special. Actually the largest Historic District in Colorado, Salida's eclectic downtown is a melting pot of unusual retail, art galleries and outstanding eating establishments. Whether winter or summer, one can stroll the 3 blocks and spend a weekend unearthing one-of-a-kind treasures.
Salida boasts some of the best mountain biking trails in the country as well as countless hiking opportunites. Not to mention the exciting rafting available down the Arkansas River that runs past the end of downtown. Kayaking is a huge sport in the area and Fibark is a boating festival held in June with a 50 year history that can't be missed.
